Irritation Analyses
Skin irritation refers to the occurrence of reversible damage to the skin following application of a test substance (Cosmetic, Biocidal, etc.). Understanding the potential of applied chemicals or formulations to cause skin irritation is an important consideration in safety assessments. The test allows hazard identification of irritating substances.
The test method is based on reconstructed human epidermis (RhE), which mimics the biochemical and physiological properties of the upper layers of human skin. The test item is applied directly to the skin surface and provides a good "real life" exposure pattern. Cell viability is then examined.
